First Baptist Hosts Forum on Basic Human Needs

 

The First Baptist Church of Bennington, Vermont, announces a new adult learning series throughout the Sundays of October 2010.  The church’s Adult Forum welcomes speakers from the local social service agencies and area non-profits to share about the critical needs of the Bennington community.  On Sunday, October 3, 2010, at 11 AM, the Adult Forum welcomes Mr. Charles “Charlie” Gingo, Field Director for the Agency of Human Services.  Mr. Gingo has served in the Bennington area for the past thirty years, coordinating state, federal, and local resources.  He will share reflections on the past, present, and future of the community’s needs.

Future guest speakers include Sue Andrews, Greater Bennington Interfaith Community Services, Inc. (October 10), William Herzog, New Testament scholar (October 17), and Bert Marshall, Church World Service (October 24).  Held in the church’s Colgate Hall, all adult forum sessions are free and open to the public.

Self Care Workshop, Saturday April 17

BENNINGTON -- On Saturday, April 17, the First Baptist Church of Bennington will offer a free self-care workshop open to the entire community. Entitled "Exploring the Riches of God’s Grace: Pathways to Physical and Spiritual Wholeness," the workshop introduces helpful ways for tending one’s soul and various holistic methods for self care. The Rev. Sharon Hughes, minister of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Rutland, will lead the workshop. The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (simple lunch included) at First Baptist, which is located at 601 Main St. The workshop is free; however, advance registration is required. ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE

 

First Baptist, Bennington, will offer an Ash Wednesday service on February 17, at 7 PM.  To be held in the church’s lounge, the service is a time for quiet contemplation, brief prayer and song, and remembering ourselves before God. The service concludes with persons receiving the ancient mark of ashes.  All persons are welcome to attend the service, led by Rev. Jerrod Hugenot and Scott Smedinghoff, director of music.

Christmas Eve @ FBC Bennington, 7 PM December 24, 2009

CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE AT FIRST BAPTIST, BENNINGTON

The First Baptist Church of Bennington, Vermont, will hold its Christmas Eve service on Thursday, December 24, 2009, at 7 PM.  The service will feature familiar Christmas carols and scripture readings, including Luke’s beloved Nativity story, accompanying the church’s gradual lighting of the Advent candles and preparation to light the Christ candle at the service’s culmination.  The church minister, the Rev. Jerrod H. Hugenot will deliver the evening’s message:  “With truth and grace”.   

 Accompanying the service music will be Mo Rancourt, guest trumpeter, and Scott Smedinghoff, the church’s organist and director of music.  A freewill offering will be taken during the service to support First Baptist’s efforts to help local children in need.

Advent Worship at First Baptist, Dec 6, 2009

Advent Services at First Baptist, Bennington

On Sunday, December 6, 2009, the First Baptist Church gathers for worship at 9:30 AM.  This Sunday marks the second Sunday of Advent, the season of preparation culminating with Christmas on December 25. The worship service will feature hymns, prayers, and proclamation centered on the prophetic tradition, anticipating the coming of Christ.  As part of the service, the congregation will observe the monthly communion, inviting all baptized Christians to partake in the Lord's supper.  An attended playroom is provided. 

This week also marks the second rehearsal for the children's Christmas program "Fumbly Bumbly Angels", to be presented on Sunday, December 13, at 5 PM, followed by a potluck dinner.
