First Baptist observes Second Sunday of Advent
Monday, November 29, 2010 at 03:28PM FIRST BAPTIST TO OBSERVE SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT WITH WORSHIP AND CHILDREN’S PROGRAM
The First Baptist Church of Bennington, Vermont, invites you to join the congregation’s worship service this weekend on Sunday, December 5, 2010, at 9:30 AM. Meeting in the Colgate Hall, the congregation observes the second week of Advent, as the edgy figure of John the Baptist appears in the gospel reading. The sermon “Nurturing Souls, Winnowing Hearts” looks at the questions Christians ask of themselves during this preparatory season leading up to Christmas. The hymns include a newly translated Advent hymn “Prepare the Royal Highway” set to a Swedish melody. The service includes the monthly communion observance.
Later in the evening, the children’s Christmas program will be offered at 5 PM, also in Colgate Hall. The program will involve the children and adults retelling the Nativity story. A potluck follows at 5:45 PM. The program and potluck are open to the public.
The First Baptist Church is “a place for healing, community involvement, and spiritual grounding”.
