R. M. Luther was photographed surrounded by Easter flowers in the chancel area of the church. (This particular image is hands down the oldest in our possession.) Also featured was a letter inviting Dr. W. G. Towart to be the minister back in 1915. (Dr. Towart would serve an astonishing 33 years!)http://www.fbcbennington.org/picture/IMG_0664.JPG?pictureId=475209In addition to photos and other small keepsakes, we also brought out some sizeable artifacts. Here is the signboard for the church under Dr. Towart's time as well as a rather unique piece of church history. During the pastorate of Rev. Jerry Miller, a furniture store burnt down. The church was saved by the hard work of the local fire department, however, some of the plexiglass protecting our stained glass windows was melted by the heat. A keepsake of the warped plexiglass is kept as a reminder of that time when the church building was in great danger.http://www.fbcbennington.org/picture/IMG_0651.JPG?pictureId=475210Carolyn Peckham designed a great big timeline to help stoke the memories of the congregation. We used this as a focal point in worship and then in the subsequent timeline when we discussed 1947 to present.
